Did you ever recognise the importance of a doctor in your life earlier? May be, never before, but now the entire globe understands how much they contribute to society. During coronavirus pandemic they are the front warriors protecting and saving our lives.
Though India celebrates National Doctor’s Day on July 1 every year, but this year their praiseworthy and relentless efforts makes it is definitely something special. Year 2020 has witnessed the hard work and dedication they have exhibited. To celebrate this spirit, July 1 is celebrated as National Doctor’s Day in India.
The day marks and honour doctors and physicians for their selfless services. This day is like a tribute to all medical and healthcare professionals who have attended to patients and did their bit for the society irrespective of all odds. The day is celebrated in honour of the birth and death anniversary of the great physician and the second Chief minister of West Bengal, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. Dr Roy, honoured with the country’s highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna, was born on July 1, 1882 and died on the same date in 1962, aged 80 years.
In India, Doctor’s Day is celebrated by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), which announces a theme every year. Last year, the theme for National Doctor’s Day was ‘Zero tolerance to violence against doctors and clinical establishments’. For the year 2020, the theme is not announced but it is understood that this year it is definitely about their services to the nation during pandemic.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today morning wished and saluted the doctors for being at the forefront in the fight against Covid-19. He tweeted, “India salutes our doctors- exceptional care givers who are at the forefront of a spirited fight against COVID-19”
