Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday became the fourth-longest serving non-Congress Prime Minister of India, surpassing Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure.
PM Modi was sworn in as the 14th Prime Minister of the country on May 26, 2014. He was again sworn-in as the PM on May 30, 2019. He also happens to be the first ever Prime Minister to be born after Independence.
In-charge of BJP’s national Information & Technology, Amit Malviya posted on the Twitter, “Today, PM Modi becomes the longest serving Indian PM of non-Congress origin”.
“(Atal Bihari) Vajpayee ji served for 2,268 days in all his terms combined. Today PM Modi has surpassed this tenure,” he added.
Today, PM Narendra Modi becomes the fourth longest serving PM in the history of India!
He now also holds the distinction of being the longest serving non-Congress PM.

Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Manmohan Singh – all from the Congress – are the three longest serving Prime Ministers in that order with Pt. Nehru being on top of the list. He was the Prime Minister of India for almost 17 years (6,130 days).
Indira Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru’s daughter remains the second longest serving Prime Minister with close to 11 years in office (5,829 days).
Dr Manmohan Singh became the Prime Minster twice and completed two consecutive terms.
PM Modi has surpassed Atal Bihar Vajpayee, who remained the longest serving non-congress PM of the country. he had been in the office for 2,272 days, over his three terms as the PM.
In 2014 elections, the Modi-led BJP won with thunderous performance. Under his leadership the party swept the election, becoming the first party to win a majority in over three decades.
