Coronavirus cases in India has crossed the 8.5 lakh mark. The worst-hit state Maharashtra again reported the highest number of new infections with 7,827 new cases, on Sunday. Currently Maharashtra is grappling with more than one lakh active cases. Overall number of Covid-19 cases in the state has crossed the 2.5 lakh.
With the rapid rise in the number of cases the authorities in different states are preparing to reimpose lockdown for varying periods. Along with Bengaluru and Pune, the Uttar Pradesh government decided to implement strict restrictions across the state on weekends to check the spread of coronavirus. Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are other two states that have been imposing Sunday lockdown. In some states like Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Bihar area-wise lockdown pattern has been followed.
The biggest single-day rise has also been reported from Bengal (1,560), Bihar (1,266), Gujarat (879) and Chhattisgarh (184). Bihar has become the 10th state to record more than 1,000 infections in a day with reporting 709 fresh cases on Saturday to 1,266 new cases on Sunday.
According to the Union Health Ministry data, India added a record 28,637 cases of coronavirus infection in a day pushing the country’s COVID-19 tally to 8,49,553. The death toll has risen to 22,674 with 551 death in 24-hours.
