The war of words between actor Kangana Ranaut and Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut, on Wednesday, took a dramatic turn. The Shiv Sena-controlled Mumbai’s civic body Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) demolished parts of an office owned by Kangana Ranaut, but the actor scored a win against the civic body with the Bombay High Court staying the demolition at her office. The drama began around 10am after a team of 30 workers and officials of the BMC reached Kangana’s office in Bandra’s Pali Hill and began the demolition of some areas inside and on the exterior of the premises. The BMC had listed 14 construction related “violations” at her office, which included the area meant for toiled being used for office purpose and a toilet apparently built in space marked for a kitchen.
Kangana returned to Mumbai on Wednesday from Manali after months break due to corona induced lockdown.
The Court stayed the demolition process initiated by the BMC for illegal construction at actor Kangana Ranaut’s bungalow and sought to know why did the city civic body enter the property when the owner was not present. The points made by the Bombay High Court in favour of the actors were: How can the corporation wake up all of a sudden and issue notice to the petitioner. The corporation did this when the owner of the building was out of state. Why did the corporation not grant her any further time even after written requests from her. The court called the BMC’s conduct “malafide” and “deplorable”. The Court reminded the civic body to take swift actions in all unauthorised construction cases. The court said, “We cannot help but mention here that if the BMC would act with similar swiftness qua the numerous unauthorised constructions in this City, the City would be a completely different place to live in.” The Bombay High Court even criticised the civic body for trying to waste the time of the court and in the meantime complete the demolition.
