It’s definitely a dark day for Indian cinema. Versatile actress Sridevi Boney Kapoor, so popularly known as ‘Chandni’ and loved by her fans for her roles in movies like Mr. India, Nagina,ChaalBaaz, Khuda Gawah, Lamhe is no more. She died of cardiac arrest on Saturday evening in Dubai. She along with her husband Boney Kapoor and younger daughter Khushi had travelled to the emirate to attend Mohit Marwah’s wedding
Sridevi’s contribution to Indian cinema is tremendous. With an illustrious career spanning over four decades, she acted in more than 275 films. She not only won the hearts of Bollywood fans but also was extremely popular in Tamil, Telgu, Malyalam and Kannada films and became one of the most celebrated actor of her times. She was called as the ‘First Female Superstar’ of Indian Cinema and was awarded Padma Shri for her contribution to Indian Cinema.
Sridevi’s acting career started at the age of 4 as a child artist in M A Thirumughams devotional Thunaivan. In 1974, with film Julie she entered Bollywood. In Solva Sawan (1978) at the age of fifteen she did her first adult role. With her film Himmatwala she gained recognition and commercial success.
After ruling over the Bollywood cinema she went on a hiatus for 15 years but she never faded out of the minds and hearts of her fans. She made a comeback with Gauri Shinde’s film English Vinglish (2012). She was last seen on the silver screen in a revenge thriller titled Mom.
